OUR JEWISH COMMUNITY is about 1 percent of the area in and around Springfield in central Illinois.
As the capital of the state, it is the seat of state government as well as home to insurance entities, higher education (University of Illinois in Springfield and Lincoln Land Community College), a strong medical community (Southern Illinois University College of Medicine, St. John's Hospital, and Memoral Medical Center), good public and private schools, and a whole host of very nice people. Springfield has about 115,000 people within the city limits and many in the exurbs of the city.
