THE JEWISH COMMUNITY BOARD OF AKRON works with many agencies, organizations, and individuals to create an energetic Jewish community. We have a volunteer association of concerned and committed people that exists for the purpose of preserving, enhancing, and perpetuating the Jewish way of life. The JCBA is affiliated with the United Jewish Communities.
Along with various programs and services the JCBA provides to the Akron-area Jewish community, it holds the annual UJC/Jewish Welfare Fund Campaign. This campaign provided funds for three agencies under the JCBA umbrella: the Shaw Jewish Community Center of Akron, The Lippman School, and Jewish Family Service. It also provides monies and distributes funds to help provide for the needs of Jewish people in the greater Akron area, Israel, and throughout the world. The JCBA fosters cooperation within the greater Akron community by advancing religious, racial, and ethnic harmony in the greater Akron area.
The Lippman School was founded in 1965 as a Jewish Day School. While embracing the rich Jewish values and traditions it was founded on, the school enjoys its reputation for diversity, offering a vibrant, hands-on, dual-language learning environment. Students appreciate the sensitivity of skilled teachers who challenge them within an engaging inquiry-based model. Readied for a top-tier high school and beyond, Lippman School students demonstrate learning outcomes with character, competency and purpose.
Visit the Shaw Jewish Community Center's website for information on memberships, upcoming events, and schedules of programs and activities.
At the Shaw JCC, our early childhood programs are grounded in An Ethical Start a program for JCC Jewish early childhood parents, teachers, and children. The program is based on passages from Pirkei Avot, Ethics of the Fathers (and Mothers), a classic Jewish text that might be described as the "original self-help book."
