The Book Selection Committee loves stories – especially stories based on the Torah, the first five books of the Bible. Eve and Adam and Their Very First Day recalls one of the earliest chapters in Genesis: God creates every plant and animal, but taps Adam to name them all. In this modern interpretation of that old story, Adam is pretty good at coming up with names, but Eve is even better. (As Eve modestly points out, that’s probably because God created her second, and therefore had a little more time to perfect the process.) The Book Selection Committee loves this modern midrash of the Creation story not only because it’s funny and clever but because it emphasizes some important Jewish values, including hakarat hatov (noticing the good) and chesed (kindness). We suspect families will love this one as much as we do, and will read it again and again.
