PJ Library is always looking for selections that offer great stories, share some Jewish history and tradition, and depict a broad representation of Jewish life. The Book Selection Committee was so excited to read this book about Osnat Barzani, who lived in Iraq 500 years ago and was perhaps the first woman in history to be known as a rabbi. Osnat’s fascinating story features a strong female character, numerous plot twists, and a miracle or two. It’s a great read, lyrically told, and the illustrations are superb. We aren’t alone in our assessment. Osnat and Her Dove, written by Sigal Samuel and illustrated by Vali Mintzi, has received multiple awards, including being named School Library Journal Best of the Year. We hope you enjoy it.
