In each installment of "Three Questions With" we ask a different PJ Library author or illustrator questions about their work, their process, and interests. This month we're chatting with author and illustrator Todd Parr, creator of PJ Library favorites such as I Love Camp and The Peace Book.
How did you become involved with PJ Library?
Several years ago they optioned one of my books for the PJ Library. It was The Peace Book. A few years after that they asked me to create a special book for Harold Grinspoon’s 80th Birthday party surprise. The Harold Book was a hit and we’ve been friends since.
How did you "grow up" to be an illustrator?
I’ve always loved to draw. My first memories of this were drawing Snoopy for a contest when I was in second grade. As far as advice - be yourself, find your own style and perfect it. I developed my style by not holding myself back. I basically started painting on anything I could find. The best part of my job is helping others and basically setting my own schedule.
When you’re not writing and illustrating, how do you like to spend your time?
I love to cook and of course, spending time with my dogs is fun too.
