PJ Library Events Round-up: We Scream for Ice Cream!

Summer has arrived here in North America and it is hot, hot, hot! PJ Library communities are finding all sorts of inventive ways to beat the heat – from pool parties, to indoor playdates, parties, and concerts, to quiet story time in the shade. Ice cream socials and frozen yogurt popups are one of the most popular ways to stay cool with PJ Library this summer. Check out what some of our communities have been up to so far!

PJ Library in Greater Washington
PJ Library in Greater Washington DC has turned their Sweet Summer Series into an annual tradition. Since 2014, the community partners with local ice cream and fro-yo shops throughout the summer for weeknight fun. Families come together for sweet treats, a Judaic-themed craft, a Judaism values card, and good company.

PJ Library in the Heart of New Jersey also runs an annual Sweet Summer Series. Each event brings families together to enjoy frozen yogurt, PJ library stories, and each other’s company. Check out photos from last year’s series below.

PJ Library in San Antonio partnered with their local Menchie’s frozen yogurt for Summer Scoops. PJ families got together to take photos with Menchie the Mench, hear stories, and socialize. Special guests stopped by each session to read PJ Library books and lead activities.

PJ Library in South Palm Beach County works with their local community to set up story time and treats at a number of different ice cream and yogurt shops. Special guests, like Rabbi Baum from Congregation Shaarei Kodesh, join to tell stories to participants and their families. See more Sweet Summer Series dates in South Palm Beach County here.

PJ Library in St. Louis opened summer with a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math) themed reading club. Children entering pre-kindergarten up through fifth grade were invited to participate. They made cool creations like catapults and skyscapers, and rounded out the day with a visit from the ice cream truck!
