There are many straightforward, historical retellings of the story of Hanukkah. Meet the Latkes isn’t one of them, and that’s what we love about it. The crispy latkes who narrate this tale (yes, you read that right) are more than a little confused by the funny-sounding words associated with this holiday, not to mention the spelling variations. Who can blame them? They are, after all, made of potatoes. With a little help, they eventually get the details straight, and somehow manage to get at the heart of the holiday in the process. A Hanukkah (Chanukah?) book that makes kids laugh – yet still carries a meaningful moral – is something we’re especially excited to share with PJ families.
