In each installment of "Three Questions With," we get to know a different PJ Library celebrity by asking three questions about their work, their process, and interests. Today we're hopping on The Mitzvah Bus to talk to Latin Grammy Award Winner Mister G.
What's the best part about being Mister G?
That's a tough one! I love writing songs and recording them with excellent musicians. But getting to travel all over the world performing my music for kids and families is the best part of all.
What was your favorite story or song as a child?
I was bit of a wild child, so it's no surprise that my favorite story was Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. I was mesmerized by the illustrations and Max's incredible nighttime adventures. Now, as a storyteller myself, I aspire to captivate kids and their parents in the same way that I was transported as a child.
I'm excited to announce that I'll have several illustrated children's books of my own coming out over the next few years published by Penguin Random House. The first will be an adaptation of my song, "Lilah Tov," which appears on my PJ Library album, The Mitzvah Bus.
What is something that you’ve never told any other interviewer?
When I was a kid I had a hip disease and couldn't walk for a couple of years. I think that might explain why so much of my music is written to get kids up and dancing; I remember being cooped-up as a child and wishing I could jump around with everyone else. I feel very fortunate that now, as a grown-up, I can sing and dance with all the kids at my shows.
