PJ Library parents often share with us touching stories that involve reading experiences with their children. The brief letter below is a good example.
In it, a PJ Mom in Cleveland tells about the family’s visit to the Statue of Liberty, on Ellis Island in the New York harbor. She and her husband surprised their children by reading to them for the first time Emma's Poem: The Voice of the Statue of Liberty during the ferry ride to the monument.
She writes:
A few months ago, we planned a trip to NYC and had purchased tickets in advance to visit Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. As we were pulling out of our driveway on the day of the trip, we reached into our mailbox to pull out whatever had come that day. One of the items in the box was an envelope from PJ Library. When I opened the envelope, I found a copy of Emma's Poem: The Voice of the Statue of Liberty.
I did not tell my children (ages 4 and 7) that the book had arrived. Instead, a couple of days later we found ourselves on the ferry to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. My husband and I pulled out the book and read it to them during the ride.
It brought tears to our eyes and smiles to their faces. It was quite a meaningful experience.
