April PJ Book Written By One of Our Own

Ella's Trip to Israel By Vivian NewmanDear to the heart of PJ Library is Ella’s Trip to Israel. It’s a new book selection for the Bagels & Lox (2 to 3 years of age) group.

Ella’s Trip to Israel is dear to PJ Library’s heart because it was written by one of our own. Vivian Newman has helped select many of the books on its mailing list. As a member of the PJ Library Book Selection Committee, Newman has served as an invaluable consultant over the years regarding many early literacy issues.

Ella’s Trip to Israel is written by Vivian Newman and illustrated by Akemi Gutierrez. The book tells the story of a little girl named Ella, who travels through Israel with her parents, enjoying many sights. She is joined by her best friend, a stuffed monkey named Koofi, whose misadventures are never that big of a problem.

Chris Barash is chairman of the Book Selection Committee. She told the Jewish Ledger that Ella’s Trip to Israel is “a sweet and charming introduction to Israel for our very youngest children and their families.” Barash adds, “We are particularly pleased because it fills an important niche for our youngest of readers.”
