About this Community

CONGREGATION SHAAREY ZEDEK of East Lansing, Michigan, is proud to sponsor the PJ Library program in our area. East Lansing is the home of Michigan State University; the city of Lansing is our state capitol. Our community has two synagogues plus, near the MSU campus, there are two Chabads and and a Hillel. Our community has a Chevra Kaddisha (burial society). Several members of our congregation, as well as our rabbi, serve on the board of the Greater Lansing Jewish Federation.

Congregation Shaarey Zedek is a member of the Union for Reform Judaism. In addition to Reform worship on Friday evenings and holy days and festivals, we have monthly Conservative Shabbat worship. Our religious school is for children ages four and up (pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade), with a monthly program for those under the age of four. We have both a junior youth group (grades 6-8) and a senior youth group (grades 9-12). We also offer adult education courses and Sisterhood and Social Justice Task Force programs, amongst other programming.

The late Sophie Radway had a special place in her heart for children and for our synagogue. With funds that she left for our synagogue, and with the support of her family, we have established the Sophie Radway Memorial PJ Library Fund. Members of our congregation and community are encouraged to support this fund which in turn supports the education of our community's children, regardless of membership in our synagogue.
