Many Things To Do With Matzah

This year PJ Library joined up with Streit's Matzos for very special PJ-branded Passover matzah boxes. Last week we kicked off our recipe series to help you make the most of your matzah. But what will you do with all of that leftover matzah and all of those empty boxes once you've made your delicious recipes? Michelle Citrin and William Levin have a few ideas.

PJ Library caught up with the hilarious duo behind viral video hit 20 Things to do With Matzah to learn more about the inspiration for their video, their favorite matzah snacks, and their thoughts on what else PJ families can do with matzah this year. (You can watch the video after the interview).

How did you come up with the idea for the song?
We really just wanted to help solve an ancient problem for our people: what to do with all that leftover matzah!

How many boxes of matzah did you need to make the video?
We used a full pallet's worth of boxes - that's a lot!

Do you have a favorite matzah treat or recipe?
William: You’ve heard of the Hillel Sandwich? I like the Shammai Sandwich. It’s pretty much the opposite of a Hillel, with herbs on the outside and matzah in the middle.
Michelle: Is that like getting an inside out sushi roll? My favorite treat is definitely Matzah Brei.

Tell us the truth, have you ever tried to exfoliate with matzah?
Michelle: During the video we definitely did. Our skin never looked better!
William: I thought it was kind of crummy.

We heard that people love to tell you about what they like to do with matzah. Can you tell us about any interesting, unusual, or off-the-wall suggestions you’ve gotten?
Michelle: Someone once said toilet paper. I gave them a non judgemental side nod and wished them luck.
William: We received an angry letter suggesting that we should be encouraging people to donate their stale unused matzah to starving populations, not to waste it. Starving populations politely declined.

Since making the video, have you thought of other ways to use matzah?
(In response to this question, Will sent us this adorable photo of his son, Sammy "un" Levin.

Thank you so much to Michelle and William for taking the time to chat with PJ Library. We'll be sharing our favorite matzah-box craft ideas on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook. And, if you need more ideas be sure to visit our Matzah-Craft Pinterest board. We'll be back next week with more Matzah Mania and special PJ Library recipes from Jenny Stempel!
