PJ LIBRARY FOUNDER Harold Grinspoon and his wife Diane Troderman led participating 2012 Jewish Funders Network (JFN) Conference attendees on a site visit to preschools in the Tel Aviv area that participate in Sifriyat Pijama. Sifriyat Pijama is PJ Library's Israeli-based sister program.
The preschools visited by the group are among the 4,000 schools in Israel participating in the Sifriyat Pijama program.
THE JFN SITE VISIT
Guests of Harold Grinspoon from the JFN Conference were provided the opportunity to see the Sifriyat Pijama program in action. Site visit guests spent a morning with the teachers, children, and leaders in Israel involved in the program that is now touching the lives of over 120,000 children each month.
The children sang to the American guests, put on performances based on the book One Little Chicken by Elka Weber, and engaged in arts and crafts activities related to the books they have received this year.
In the slideshow below, see just a few of the smiling faces that greeted visitors that day:
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Sifriyat Pijama gifts children's selections in Hebrew each month to more than 100,000 preschoolers in about 4,000 preschools throughout Israel. Many of the recipients of Sifriyat Pijama books are part of underserved immigrant populations and people living in the northern and southern periphery of the country.
In cooperation with the Israeli Ministry of Education, Sifriyat Pijama enables teachers to introduce a new book each month to their classes. Sifriyat Pijama is the result of a partnership between the Harold Grinspoon Foundation (HGF), the Israeli Ministry of Education, and private funders.
