Pomegranates go way back in Jewish history — they're one of the seven native species of ancient Israel and are a traditional food at Rosh Hashanah. Some people think that the apple in the Garden of Eden was actually a pomegranate! Pomegranate seeds are delicious, but getting at them can be tricky. Try the technique outlined below.

Supplies
- Pomegranate
- Knife
- Bowl of water
Directions
- Cut the fruit in half vertically from stem end to flower end (a grown-up’s job). Then cut each half in two again.
- Place the pomegranate halves in a big bowl of water.
- Dig your fingers into the fruit to separate the seeds (called arils) from the white fleshy parts (albedo). The seeds will sink to the bottom of the bowl.
- Remove the floating parts, then drain the bowl. You’ll be left with a generous pile of glistening red seeds.
- Enjoy!
