Book Preview: A Tree Is Nice

A NUMBER OF COLORFUL children's books celebrate the JEWISH holiday of Tu B’Shevat.

Tu B’Shevat is a minor holiday sometimes called the New Year for the Trees. Families often celebrate by enjoying tree-centric activities or holding a traditional or unique Tu B’Shevat Seder. A Tree Is Nice By Janice Udry A TREE IS NICE
Readers in our Bagels & Lox (2 to 3 Years) Age Group are receiving a particularly beautiful Tu B’Shevat-related book this January.

The book, A Tree Is Nice, is written by Janice Udry and illustrated by Marc Simont. It won the Caldecott Medal in 1957.

Why is it nice to have a tree? A Tree Is Nice describes a variety of ways in which people make use of trees. It explains some of the many reasons that they are so important to us all.

READING IN MISSISSIPPI
Some of the Mississippi readers in our PJ Library Southern States community might know about the Ready to ROAR Reading Time program at the Mississippi Children’s Museum in Jackson.

Each month, the program focuses on a different author, and each week a different book by that author. Last month, December 2012, the program highlighted Janice Udry.

Watch the video below, as Ready to ROAR Reading Time member Allie Grace Bell reads A Tree Is Nice aloud as she sets inside the set of PBS’ Between the Lions:
