Barbara Bietz knows kids' books. She is a children’s author, a magazine writer, a book reviewer, and chair of the Sydney Taylor Book Award Committee.
In January, Bietz interviewed one of our most beloved PJ Library authors, Michelle Edwards. Bietz wrote about the interview in a blog post entitled, “Michele Edwards -- Chicken Man.”

Edwards first started writing for kids, she tells Bietz, during her first stay in Israel in 1974. “I knew I wanted to be an artist,” she says.
She tells Bietz of her having written Chicken Man after living and working on Kibbutz Mizra. “I had a friend who worked in the lul, the chicken coop,” she recalls. That friend convinced Edwards to work there, too. “That’s when I learned about the power of stories.”
