2016 PJ Library Family Survey Results

Every three years, PJ Library works with an external evaluation firm to conduct a survey to learn more about our subscriber families and their experiences with the program. This latest survey was conducted in the fall of 2016, with more than 25,000 families submitting responses. What we learned will shape the evolution of PJ Library for the next three years, and beyond.

A PORTRAIT OF PJ LIBRARY FAMILIES

The 125,000-plus families in PJ Library reflect the full breadth and spectrum of Jewish life in the United States and Canada, from how they practice Judaism to their family makeup. Although PJ Library families are diverse, they almost universally value the experience of receiving free Jewish books in their homes.

IMPACT ON INTERFAITH FAMILIES

More than one-quarter of PJ Library families described themselves as interfaith, meaning one parent identifies as Jewish and one does not. This survey shows that the program is more likely to have an impact in these homes. Eighty-nine percent of interfaith families say they have been influenced by PJ Library to learn more about Judaism.

2013 FAMILY SURVEY

Prior to 2016, the last family study PJ Library conducted was in the fall of 2013. More than 20,000 families responded to that survey, and what we learned led directly to new initiatives like PJ Library’s parent book choice, and the creation of new materials that accompany our books.
