Shaboom! Episode 7: Hero Heart

PJ Library has partnered with BimBam to bring a fun, educational webseries, Shaboom! to life. If your kids love Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood or Little Einsteins, they'll love Shaboom!  The show makes use of the same playful, educational, vibe but with the bonus of Jewish values and themes built in to each story. In this week's episode we learn about ometz lev--courage of the heart.

The Plony family is camping in the backyard, but everyone's afraid of the dark! Gabi and Rafael jump down the rainbow to help the family face their fears while overcoming some challenges of their own.

We have a lot of great books in the PJ Library catalog that talk about courage and ometz lev. Books like All Kinds of StrongAnnushka's Voyageand Brave Girl feature characters making bold choices and finding courage to make positive changes in their lives and communities. Younger readers may enjoy the comedic tale of Beautiful Yetta: The Yiddish Chicken who strikes out on an adventure in Brooklyn and makes lots of new friends along the way.

You can run with the lessons learned from the Sparks and the Plonys by making a list of new things and experiences you want to try, talking about fears to overcome, or ways to be nice to new friends at school or in the neighborhood. Every time we encourage children to try new things, do the right thing, or reach out and make new friends, we're teaching them about ometz lev.
